VIDEO PROJECT: May, 2022 | Flottant
Monica's next improv movement emerged on the Batteau Flottant along the Canal de Garonne in Southern France. Monica used the boat's name 'Flottant' as an inspirational start point for the piece, being French for the word 'floating'. When one is cruising along the canals, everything slows down, details are brought into focus, and one floats gently into the flow of life. |

Monica filmed an improv movement on the long windy beaches of the Borders, between England and Scotland. Focused solely on the feet, the short video reflects on crossing borders - the outside forces that can cause imbalance, the uncertainties, the strength of will, and at the heart of it, the completely natural feeling of moving freely across land, where borders are in reality invisible constructs of man. |

Monica has begun a collaborative video art project with artist/writer DMo and dancer Sara Augieras with the start point of three words that represent the sign of the times: justice, uncertainty, bond. It is being shot on a mobile phone at various iconic London landmarks, as a project incorporating movement, poetics narration and moving image to express the relationship between these words and the contrasts they can present in their own meanings...reflecting life itself. |

REIKI MEDIC-CARE PROJECT: October, 2020 - onwards | A project caring for frontline medical professionals
Reiki Medic-Care is a support and research project that came about during the Covid-19 pandemic to support the wellbeing of hospital doctors, nurses and ambulance paramedics. It offers a confidential and easy-to-use service providing Reiki treatments without cost. Monica is part of the team of fully insured and certified Reiki practitioners who will deliver Reiki remotely to fit in with the medical professionals' busy schedules. As well as sending Reiki treatments remotely to frontline physicians, nurses and paramedics, Reiki Medic-Care will also collect data for future research to prove the efficacy of distant Reiki, together with their research partner, Ann Baldwin PhD, Department of Physiology, University of Arizona. VIDEO PROJECT: June, 2020 | Being Water
Monica took to movement in nature when initial easing of restrictions were introduced after lockdown, in order to reconnect with Mother Earth and her moving self. Being Water expresses the connection the human body has with water, as well as the regenerative nature of water, in this case, water coming directly from a mountain source. This project then became part of a collection of dance artists capturing on video their own expressions of sentiments experienced during the pandemic, to form a collective video called The Reeds directed by Sara Augieras. |

PROJECT: March - August, 2016 | Dancing Around The World global film project
ReiMoves in association with DMoArtWorlds presents the global film project #DancingAroundTheWorld. This project calls upon people everywhere to capture and share a moving moment in their life story by creating a short dance docufilm 5 minutes or less in length. The film should tell a personal story highlighting where you live and feature dance as a key storytelling element. The project is open to anyone and will kick off on the first day of Spring, March 21st, 2016. The deadline for submissions is August 29th, 2016, with selected submissions announced during September, 2016. ReiMoves will be collaborating on a short film to kickstart the project. Monica will perform in the duet piece Mugen / 夢幻 by Juri Nishi with Swedish dancer Madeleine Jonsson. The performance is part of the V&A Late themed on Japan, featuring a selection of Japanese contemporary artists, composers' installations and performances throughout the V&A. Mugen / 夢幻 is an enquiry into the roots of the Japanese identity in relation to the form of Kimonos, their sense of beauty and belief in Shintoism. The new contemporary dance composition is in response to the work of Shigeo Anzaï. Monica was asked to hold dance and movement classes at The Village School in Kingsbury, London. It was a great opportunity to share the benefits of ReiMoves with the diverse range of students at the school. Monica worked with an age group spanning from 6 to 15 years old, of various special needs. The Village School strives to achieve the goal that all of their community feel they belong and can make a contribution to the greater good. They are an inclusive community school celebrating diversity. WORKSHOP: 22nd November, 2014 | An Inner Walk Through Your Emotions with ReiMoves
Take an inner walk through your emotions with Monica Brunello as she introduces you to the exercises and techniques of the movement practice ReiMoves. ReiMoves is a practice that forms a path to self through release-based movement infused with the energy healing principles of Reiki. It focuses on the expression of both internal and external movement of energy through movement-based energy work, partner work, visualization, and specific ReiMoves exercises such as Transformations. ReiMoves workshops help tune people into their bodies and its movement, gaining a deeper understanding of their entire being. In this particular workshop, emphasis will be placed on taking an inner journey to know your emotional self and to help release any held onto emotions that drain your energy unnecessarily. Monica was asked to choreograph a performance to accompany Perry Melius and Wayne Nunes new formation Warrior Charge at the TriSpace Gallery. Monica choreographed a ReiMoves piece for two performers that could express the tones and feelings within the music, in the small stage space. In more than a decade of partnership, the duo have produced a body of work that shows their innovative creativity in music, experimenting with elements from a vast array of musical styles such as Indian, Reggae, Pop and Folk. VIDEO: June/July, 2012 | Phenomena at Valentines Mansion
Monica was one of four dancers performing in the short film Phenomena shot on location at Valentines Mansion. After the filming, Monica collaborated with Juri in delivering a series of community workshops for adults and children, using the ReiMoves practice. Phenomena was a site-specific project from Japanese visual and live artist Juri Nishi and Portuguese filmmaker Tania Moreira David, that incorporated architecture, dance, film and visual art to reveal the memory of the movements of previous Mansion inhabitants. The project explored the relationship between the body and the architectural landscape, questioning memories and the sense of belonging. LaToyah Gill of The Short Film Movement+ approached Monica to choreograph and perform a ReiMoves movement piece for the multimedia performance Story Spectacular at Testbed1 in Battersea. Monica's performance was accompanied live by violinist Dora Maria and actress Maggie Turner. Story Spectacular, written and directed by LaToyah Gill and produced by Eftihia Stefanidi, presented a cinematic debate and artistic ensemble exploring the perils and complexities of motherhood. Square Dances is a choreographic work by Rosemary Lee in collaboration with Dance Umbrella 2011. Monica collaborated on the project as one of the dancers featured in the Gordon Square performance. VIDEO: December, 2010 | Barbican Moves at the Barbican Centre
This collaborative work saw Monica team up with artist/writer DMo on an experimental video production of the Barbican Centre Complex, exploring the life of this unique space and the strange way it feels alive. Through spoken word narration, photographic imagery and movement, the video tells a story from the architecture's perspective, imagining if its walls could talk. DMo is a multimedia artist who works across the platforms of art, film and music to create works that connect, inspire and provoke thought. Monica has appeared in a number of DMo video art experimentia pieces. |
