'Being and Matter' at White Rainbow Gallery - November, 2015
Being and Matter continues Monica's collaboration with Japanese choreographer Juri Nishi. Monica performs alongside French dancer Sara Augieras and Swedish dancer Madeleine Jonsson, for the happening performance at White Rainbow Gallery, as part of Fitzrovia Lates.
The new contemporary dance composition is in response to the work of Shigeo Anzaï. It draws inspiration from the Mono-ha artists and ‘Between Man and Matter’, Yusuke Nakahara’s concept for the 10th Tokyo Biennale, 1970.
"It is an enquiry into the relationship between matter, body and space...Like the ‘Happenings’ of the 1970’s, the performance takes an open format, shifting in response to chance, time and place." - Juri Nishi

Monica was one of four dancers performing in the short film Phenomena shot on location at Valentines Mansion.
After the filming, Monica collaborated with Juri in delivering a series of community workshops for adults and children, using the ReiMoves practice.
Phenomena was a site-specific project from Japanese visual and live artist Juri Nishi and Portuguese filmmaker Tania Moreira David, that incorporated architecture, dance, film and visual art to reveal the memory of the movements of previous Mansion inhabitants. The project explored the relationship between the body and the architectural landscape, questioning memories and the sense of belonging.
"In our film Phenomena we are looking for...a strong physical and sensorial relation to space and architecture." - Juri Nishi
'Story Spectacular' at Testbed1 - November, 2011
LaToyah Gill of The Short Film Movement+ approached Monica to choreograph and perform a ReiMoves movement piece for the multimedia performance Story Spectacular at Testbed1 in Battersea.
Monica's performance was accompanied live by violinist Dora Maria and actress Maggie Turner.
Story Spectacular, written and directed by LaToyah Gill and produced by Eftihia Stefanidi, presented a cinematic debate and artistic ensemble exploring the perils and complexities of motherhood.
"Mothers, they are food to our souls. Publicly they are praised and rightly so. They should be saluted, embraced, cherished and respected. Shouldn't they? Does a mother always have pure thoughts toward her offspring? Is the love always unconditional? We all have our quiet stories to tell..." - LaToyah Gill

This collaborative work saw Monica team up with artist/writer Danielle 'DMo' Oke on an experimental video production of the Barbican Centre Complex, exploring the life of this unique space and the strange way it feels alive.
Through spoken word narration, photographic imagery and movement, the video tells a story from the architecture's perspective, imagining if its walls could talk.
Danielle is a multimedia artist who works across the platforms of art, film and music to create works that connect, inspire and provoke thought. Monica has appeared in a number of DMo video art experimentia pieces.
